Pressure is most commonly measured in the brachial artery of the upper arm and is expressed in millimeters of Mercury (mmHg) in a ratio of systolic pressure over diastolic pressure. Ideally, in an adult, the systolic reading should lie between 90 and 119 mmHg and the diastolic reading should like between 60 and 79 mmHg. Therefore, blood pressure is considered low if readings are below 90/60 (hypotension) and high if above 140/90 (hypertension).
